school funding town hall january 7 2025 at PAC at 6pm

Fund Schools Now will host a Town Hall on School Funding, on January 7th at 6pm, at the Blaine Performing Arts Center (PAC), to address the pressing issue of inadequate state funding for public education. This is a joint effort between parents, educators, and leaders of Blaine, Ferndale and Mt. Baker school districts. The event is designed to both educate the community on the impact of funding shortfalls and provide legislators with a firsthand understanding of the hardships facing Blaine and surrounding districts.

Goals of the Town Hall

This timely event comes as legislators prepare to return to Olympia for the upcoming legislative session. The Town Hall has two key objectives:

  1. Educate and Activate: Inform the community about how insufficient funding from the state affects our district and other districts across the county and state.

  2. Share Our Story: Highlight the unique challenges faced by our district due to budget cuts and advocate for full funding of public education.

Our district’s story is not just about numbers—it’s about real students, teachers, and families impacted by insufficient funding. We are committed to ensuring our legislators fully understand the consequences of these budget shortfalls and the urgent need for change.

What to Expect

The Town Hall will include:

  • Testimonies from teachers, parents, and students sharing personal stories about how budget cuts have affected their educational experience.

  • Presentations by leaders of the Blaine, Ferndale and Mt Baker school districts outlining funding challenges and their impact on programs, class sizes, and student support services.

  • Dialogue with legislators - Rep. Joe Timmons, Rep. Alicia Rule and Senator Sharon Shewmake - about funding priorities for the upcoming session.

A Call for Action

This Town Hall is about uniting our voices. We’re asking our legislators to listen, understand, and take action to fully fund public education—not just for our district, but for every student in Washington State.
