winter weather school schedule changes with school bus covered in snow

With snow in the forecast, we want to remind families about our communication protocols for last-minute changes to the school schedule. We are committed to making decisions as early as possible, however school schedules and bus transportation may be changed on short notice in the event of severe weather conditions or other emergencies. We will use the following methods to communicate about schedule changes:

  • ParentSquare: Notifications will be sent from this communication platform to families and staff. To receive email and/or text messages, an email address and mobile phone number must be in Qmlativ or Family Access.

  • Local News Outlets: Emergency school schedule changes will be reported to news media via FlashAlert Newswire.

  • Website: An announcement will be posted on the district's website Live Feed at www.blainesd.org.

  • Social Media: A post will also appear at Blaine School District, WA on Facebook and Instagram.

  • Schedule Hotline: A recorded message will be available by calling 360-332-0789.

If there are no announcements, families may assume that there is no change to the regular school schedule. We appreciate your patience as we make every effort to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Below are some additional reminders for the winter months:

  • Dress children appropriately knowing they may have to wait longer than usual for the bus.

  • Bear in mind that bus schedules may run late due to changing driving conditions.

  • Allow for short notice schedule changes and late buses.

  • Remind children to be especially cautious while walking to the school bus stop during hours of darkness and inclement weather.

  • Remind children to wait well off of the roadway for the bus during icy and dark conditions.
